Assessment of Changing the Abstraction and Recharge Rates on the Land Subsidence in the Nile Delta, Egypt

The majority of residential, agricultural, and industrial areas are situated on cohesive soil in the Nile Delta, Egypt. Excessive pumping from Delta aquifer to meet increasing demands for water could lead system compaction land subsidence. Land subsidence endangers infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, canals, roads, well deteriorating lands agricultural resources. objective this research is investigate predict future behavior middle Delta. study goals met by using a numerical model (MODFLOW) simulate groundwater flow an analytical solution calculate conditions. In study, three scenarios considered including; decreasing recharge, abstraction combination two. results reveal that recharge 94.4%, 88.8%, 83.2% led 30-, 60-, 90-mm subsidence, respectively, while 146%, 193%, 233% 190, 380, 560 mm, delta.
